Fire season
Defensible space, done with machines
The USDA Forest Service rates Carson City's wildfire risk to homes higher than 98.5% of US communities, and Reno's higher than 97.7% (Wildfire Risk to Communities, April 2026 data). We assess the fire risks around your house, remove the fuel and create a defensible zone, using hand crews, a brush mower and a masticator.

USDA Forest Service, Wildfire Risk to Communities (April 2026 data).
- Zone 0: 0 to 5 feet. Ember-resistant zone. Nothing that burns against the house: clear dead leaves and needles, move firewood away, cut back branches that touch walls or hang over the roof.
- Zone 1: 5 to 30 feet. Lean, clean and green. Remove dead plants and ladder fuels, limb up trees, and break up continuous shrubs such as junipers.
- Zone 2: 30 to 100 feet. Reduced fuel. Thin crowded trees and brush so fire stays on the ground and slows down. This is where the brush mower and masticator work.

A Carson City tree crew since October 2013
Michael Orlick opened Battle Born Tree Service in October 2013 with a tool truck and a few chainsaws, and a promise to run a business that is quality-driven rather than profit-driven. Today it is an eight-man crew with two ISA Certified Arborists on staff and its own fleet: a crane, a 75-foot Altec boom truck, a Bobcat T870 track loader, a chip truck and a brush mower.
Readers of the Nevada Appeal have voted Battle Born first place, Best Tree Service, in the Best of Carson City poll every year from 2018 through 2025. The company has been BBB accredited since 2015 and holds an A+ rating.

Questions people ask
Still have a question? Call 775.232.8243. Phones are answered seven days a week.
Is the estimate free?
Yes. Our residential and commercial tree services always include a free estimate before any work is done. A certified arborist looks at the job in person, and the estimate is detailed and easy to understand.
When is the best time to prune trees?
Dead branches and safety hazards can be pruned at any time. Otherwise prune when the tree is dormant: late winter for most deciduous trees, such as maples, and early spring and summer for most conifers, such as pines.
What are the benefits of removing a large tree?
Safety comes first: an old, overgrown tree can carry weak and dead branches that fail in storms. Overgrown roots can damage houses, pipes and septic tanks. And when a large tree has dead and sick branches, removal can save time and money in the end.
Is stump grinding included with a large tree removal?
All estimates are tailored to each client and what they need. Tell the arborist if you want the stump ground, and it will be written into your estimate.
Do you handle emergencies?
Yes. We offer 24-hour emergency service for trees on houses, blocked roads and driveways and storm damage. Call 775.232.8243. If anyone is hurt call 911, and if a power line is involved stay clear and call NV Energy.
